Abstract

In light of ongoing digitalization, data has become an integral part of modern society. This development extends to the education sector, requiring schools to adapt to these changes. Within educational research, data- and evidence-based school development plays a crucial role by examining how schools collect, analyze, and utilize data to improve their processes.

The aim of this study is to identify and systematize the current state of research on data-based school development through a systematic literature review. Using a targeted search strategy in two subject-specific databases (FIS Bildung, ERIC) and two scientific databases (APA PsycInfo, WoS), 14 publications from the period 2019 to 2024 were identified.

The findings reveal diverse yet overlapping areas of research interest and focus. The publications included in the review are categorized into five key areas: studies on data teams, studies on school leadership, research on tools for utilizing internal school data, research into data-driven teaching development, and general investigations into the use of data for school improvement. Together, these categories outline the core themes within the field of data-based school development.
